Cowon iAudio 9 PMP gets unboxed

Perhaps it’s a 2009 thing and, come the new year, packaging will won’t enthral us so, but for now there’s a great deal of geeky appeal in how manufacturers choose to present their tech. Cowon have generally been associated more with audio performance than they have with style, but it looks like some of the “shape up” message is getting through: DAP Review have just taken delivery of the iAudio 9 PMP, and as their unboxing photoset shows there’s obviously been a lot of thought put into how it’s packaged.

Cowon W2 MID with Atom CPU revealed by Bluetooth SIG

Gadgets leaked by text are far less exciting than blurry, hurriedly-snapped photos, but we won’t turn up our noses at a preview no matter the method. It now appears that Cowon have a touchscreen MID in the works, the Cowon W2, according to a test page at the Bluetooth SIG, though specifications are still scant.

Cowon iAudio 9 PMP gets priced & dated

Cowon’s iAudio 9 PMP now has a release date and pricing, after the slimline media player was first outed at the start of October. 8.9mm thick, the iAudio 9 will be available in 8GB and 16GB configurations, and land in Japan at least in the middle of November 2009.

Cowon iAudio 9 PMP: broad codec support and TV out

Cowon have outed their latest PMP, the iAudio 9, complete with a 2-inch QVGA display and voice-recorder functionality. While it may not have the outright style of some rival devices, one thing Cowon have always impressed with is codec support and the iAudio 9 is looking like it’ll be no different.

mintpass mintpad gets US distribution; on sale at Amazon

mintpass’ palm-sized mintpad PMP and internet browser has gone on sale through Amazon at $169.99, courtesy of specialist importer JetAudio. The availability follows a brief period of pre-sales directly from mintpass themselves, and – at least according to a statement made to Pocketables – seems to indicate that the company have partnered with JetAudio for their US distribution.

Cowon iAudio E2 MP3 player gets iconic teaser

Cowon’s next MP3 player has been previewed, and the keyring-style iAudio E2 is already causing no small amount of confusion. While it ostensibly resembles a screenless PMP in the manner of the iPod shuffle, the row of icons at the top of the Cowon teaser (which you can see full-sized after the cut) does seem to suggest a more complete range of features.

Apple, Microsoft, iriver & more face Tsera touchpad patent lawsuit

ipod nano touchpad Apple, Microsoft, Bang & Olufsen and iriver are among the defendants named by Tsera LLC, a company claiming to own a touchpad patent which has been vigorously infringed. The lawsuit concerns Tsera’s patent “Methods and apparatus for controlling a portable electronic device using a touchpad”, and basically describes recognizing different touchpad swipes without requiring visual feedback.

Cowon S9 White Edition PMP unveiled

Cowon have unveiled a ceramic white version of their S9 touchscreen AMOLED PMP, although it’s yet to go on sale in the US. The Cowon S9 White Edition comes with matching headphones and the same crisp 480 x 272 display.

Memorex TouchMP $99 touchscreen PMP reviewed

memorex touchmp Memorex isn’t a brand we particularly associate with desirable PMPs, but the company is hoping to gain a little more attention for their mediaplayer division with the launch of the Memorex TouchMP. Notable for offering a full touchscreen interface and 8GB of storage despite being priced at just $99, the TouchMP has actually managed to make a good impression over at CNET.

The looks may be reminiscent of a Palm Pilot, and the sound performance merely “acceptable for the price”, but there’s plenty to like about the TouchMP. For a start there’s a microSD card expansion slot on the bottom (with its content merged with the integrated storage), and Memorex’s supplied headphones break with PMP tradition by actually being reasonable to use.

Cowon S9 MP3 player hits U.S.
