Celio have finally released their software driver for BlackBerry owners wishing to use the company's REDFLY "Mobile Companion" device.  Announced back in September, the new software means the BlackBerry's display can be replicated on the netbook-sized REDFLY C8N and C7 terminals, with users able to take advantage of a larger keyboard and a trackpad for navigation.

Celio are still attempting to carve out a niche for themselves in the “smartphone companion” segment, and to do that they’ve expanded support from Windows Mobile to BlackBerry handsets.  Select RIM smartphones can now link up to Celio’s REDFLY netbook-style terminals, giving users a bigger display and larger keyboard for easier messaging, working and internet browsing.

Themes are a natural thing now a days, especially for mobile phones. Because let's face it, no matter how awesome your phone is, some times you just want a change of pace. And while some companies may get all up-in-arms regarding themes making it to other devices, the truth is that themes don't hurt anyone. Seeing an HTC Hero theme placed over a jailbroken iPhone for example does not add some of the better features of the phone, like multi-tasking or the notifications bar. All it does is make the iPhone look different. And now it looks like the BlackBerry 8900 is ready to leap tall buildings in a single bound...

blackberry curve 8520RIM have officially announced the BlackBerry Curve 8520, the handset formerly known as the BlackBerry Gemini.  Set to land on both T-Mobile USA and Vodafone UK next month, the Curve 8520 is the company’s latest non-3G smartphone, complete with a full hardware QWERTY keyboard, optical trackpad for navigation and a 2-megapixel camera.

There’s also a 320 x 240 display, Bluetooth and WiFi.  A microSD card slot and 3.5mm headphone jack round out the specifications, while the battery is good for 4.5hrs of talktime or 17 days of standby.  While many may scoff at the absence of high-speed cellular connectivity, the success of other 2.5G BlackBerry handsets such as the Curve 8900 shows there’s still a demand for straightforward, solid messaging-centric smartphones.

It seems like every new smartphone has a big leak these days and the BlackBerry Tour from RIM is no different. In fact Kevin Byrne, an insider from Verizon, told The Boy Genius Report that this smartphone will be launching on July 13th.

A pre-production BlackBerry Curve 8520 has fallen into the esteemed hands of CrackBerry, and they’ve done the honorable thing and thoroughly reviewed it.  Intended as an entry-level handset, the EDGE-only Curve 8520 – aka the BlackBerry Gemini – isn’t going to impress in the smartphone playground when it comes to features, but that doesn’t stop it from being quietly competent when it comes to build and hand-feel.

blackberrycurve8900 lg 280x480Well, it looks like AT&T is the next carrier in line to get their hands on the BlackBerry Curve 8900. This latest offering will be a serious update from the 8300 model with improved specs and performance expected.

T-Mobile and Rogers already have the latest Curve, which features a 3.2-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, GPS and a 480 x 360 display. It also has the newest BlackBerry operating system. The AT&T version of the BlackBerry 8900 will be a tad different, however.

Specifically, it won’t feature Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) support for VoIP. However, it will have AT&T Navigator, XM Radio Mobile and Yellow Pages. We don’t know how much the phone will cost on AT&T, but they are likely to keep it competitive with T-Mobile, which is currently priced at $149.99 with a two-year contract. The release date is also unknown, though expected to fall within the early summer months.

A video demo of the upcoming BlackBerry OS 5.0 has been released, with a leaked version of the platform running on a Curve 8900.  Anyone hoping for huge changes will be disappointed; there are some neat tweaks such as a new media memory display, trackball flicks through photo slideshows and changes to the browser which should make it more impressive against that on rival platforms.
