Acer’s Aspire Revo nettop has just received a welcome shot in the arm, courtesy of a dual-core Atom 330 processor and an extra gig of RAM.  The Aspire Revo R3610-U9012 kicks out its predecessor’s Atom 230 chip in favor of the quicker alternative, and pairs it with 2GB of RAM, Windows 7 and NVIDIA Ion graphics.  That should hopefully make the system a little better at coping with non-1080p video tasks, something the first model had issues with.

ASUS’ Eee PC T91 has appeared on the Amazon US site, listed as in-stock and ready for immediate delivery.  Priced at $499.99, the long-awaited T91 is ASUS’ first 8.9-inch convertible touchscreen netbook, and uses an Intel Atom Z520 1.33GHz processor, 1GB of RAM (2GB max) and the company’s custom “TouchSuite” UI.

Twitter is great, but we do prefer more mainstream routes for much-anticipated news like the release date of the Eee PC T91 touchscreen netbook.  Still, after the in-stock/not-in-stock flip-flopping of retailers, we’ll welcome anything concrete from ASUS themselves, even if it’s a two-sentence tweet telling us that the 8.9-inch netbook will arrive in the US on July 15th.

Intel have released Moblin v2.0 beta for netbooks and nettops, the latest version of the company’s open-source OS for Atom-based devices.  Mobile v2.0 brings with it a new, visually-enhanced GUI, together with the “m_zone” homescreen, integrated Twitter and Last.fm widgets, and a new integrated browser based on Mozilla’s engine.

ASUS currently has a team of engineers working on Android-based netbooks, according to Eee PC team leader Samson Hu.  However, despite the investment in development, the decision to release an Eee PC running the Google open-source OS has not been made.

asus eee pc 901According to the latest reports coming out of ASUS, the company is planning to completely phase out its 8.9-inch Eee PC range in 2009.  Benson Lin, president of Asustek’s Asia-Pacific division, told reporters this week that the Eee PC range will continue with two size variants, 10-inches and 7-inches.

ASUS today unveiled the Eee Keyboard, a full nettop computer built into a keyboard form-factor.  The keyboard, which resembles that supplied with the Eee Top touchscreen nettop, also has a 5-inch display on the right-hand side, together with Ultrawideband HDMI connectivity.

Quanta has been demonstrating multitouch touch-sensitive displays using an optical recognition system rather than the more common capacitive or resistive panels.  The technology, which the company calls Optical Touch, relies on two cameras embedded into the top left and right corners of the display, which track the user’s fingers.  It will be compatible with the multitouch functionality coming as standard in Windows 7.
