Like the look of Google Chrome OS but don’t want to wait until late next year to buy a system running the new, web-centric platform?  It’s only been a matter of hours since Google announced details of their new OS, but already there are a number of options for playing with the software.  gdgt have put out a full VMWare image of Chrome OS to play with on an existing system, or alternatively you can go the whole hog for a proper install.

Looking mighty familiar, but with a heritage that escapes our memory right now, Malata’s latest netbook is one of the increasingly popular convertible touchscreen models.  The Malata R108T packs a rotating 10-inch 1024 x 600 touchscreen – which we’re presuming is resistive – together with the usual dreary roster of 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, 1GB of memory and 160GB hard-drive, but makes up for that by apparently being priced at around $435.

asus eee pc t91mt reviewedASUS’ Eee PC T91MT multitouch-capable convertible touchscreen netbook may only just be available in the US, but that hasn’t stopped MyT91’s Kubel from scripting up a full review of the finger-friendly device.  According to his report, the T91MT not only has a great keyboard but a reasonably effective touchscreen; it can only recognize two points of contact and has neither palm-rejection nor pressure-sensitivity, but it still manages to offer more touch-control than previous versions of the T91.

We have already talked a bit about the new Asus Eee PC T91 multi touch netbook. Certainly, the coolest feature of the netbook is the multi-touch capability and the custom Asus UI that sits on top of Windows 7 to allow navigation of content on the machine.

According to ASUS UK, the company’s upcoming Eee PC 1201N complete with NVIDIA Ion graphics will be arriving in stores come December.  Speaking to Electricpig, the company confirmed that the 12-inch Ion machine was imminent, but are yet to define the actual specifications.  Meanwhile, ASUS’ first Smartbook has apparently been delayed according to a market specialist at the company, and is now not expected until Q2 2010.

Having gone up for preorder in Europe midway through October, the upcoming multitouch-capable ASUS Eee PC T91MT has now shown up for preorder in the US.  Amazon are listing the convertible touchscreen netbook – the T91MT-PU17-WT, to give it its full, catchy title – for $549, though they don’t have any specific release date.

The weeks are just flying by, time change is this weekend so I hope you aren’t late for anything. The holidays will be here before we know it. This has been another busy week in the gadget world. HTC has confirmed that Android 2.0 smartphones are incoming and the HTC Dragon is the likely first Android 2.0 device to come from HTC.

Bargain hunters looking for a new ultraportable this Christmas could do well to hold off until the new year, as ASUS CEO Jerry Shen has announced the company plans to launch an Android-based Smartbook in Q1 2010 that could be priced at around $180.  ASUS were among the companies demonstrating Smartbook prototypes – based on Qualcomm’s 1GHz Snapdragon processor – back in June, but since then have downplayed their involvement with the format.
