Last week the trackball on my BlackBerry Curve decided to quit on me. The thing couldn’t roll down a hill if it tried and, well, the phone’s dated version of the operating system was starting to make me look like a mobile T-Rex. (I always thought if I were to be a dinosaur, I’d be a T-Rex.)

Is Apple planning a quiet iPhone update? That's what The BGR has heard, with two AT&T sources suggesting that the iPhone 3G 8GB will be replaced with an 8GB entry-level iPhone 3GS in time for Christmas. The move is apparently intended, one of those sources claims, to better battle the DROID army from Verizon.

Last month it was two billion downloads; this month it's over 100,000 applications available: is the Apple App Store really just a headline generator? No, obviously not, it's a software marketplace for the iPhone and iPod touch, but as the figures show it's certainly the most popular mobile apps store out there right now.
Some people go to the park or Starbucks to people watch, I prefer an outing to Best Buy. I love checking out all the newest gadgets and tech under one roof (more than I should even let on), but I often get distracted by watching people who seem totally confused about which PC to buy. More often than not, I see them peruse the notebooks and desktops on display and struggle to figure out the difference between, let’s say, a netbook and a full-size notebook. And when they approach a Blue Shirt, the answers I have heard can be quite comical. No kidding, it’s the size of the netbook that makes it different!?
As predicted earlier today, Apple have pushed out their latest firmware for the Apple TV. Version 3.0 brings with it a newly redesigned GUI, along with compatibility with iTunes Extras and iTunes LP as introduced in iTunes 9. There’s also support for Genius Mixes and internet radio playback, and the whole set-top box experience is apparently smoother and quicker.

For a long time popular belief held that the Apple Mac OS never had any problems and had no malware. Today we know there malware that targets the Mac OS and the operating system has its share of issues from time to time. According to reports coming in now, the newest version of Mac OS called Snow Leopard is randomly deleting user data.
Salt at the ready – and you’ll need a pretty big handful this time around – because according to the Boy Genius Reports’ tipster you’re looking at a “product mockup that may coincide with the launch of a revised Apple TV“. If you reckon it looks like a touchscreen remote control then you’re not alone.
The device – about which little is known – does show a Safari option, which has led to suggestions that it could be a WiFi tablet in its own right. Alternatively, if it really is a true companion device to the refreshed Apple TV, it could be a trigger to loading Safari on the mediaplayer, with the remote then working as a touchscreen keyboard and mouse pad to control browsing on your HDTV.
Microsoft’s first Zune attempts won it a few dedicated users but a whole lot of criticism. In the face of Apple’s all-conquering iPod touch there was only really one way to go, and that was touchscreen; the Zune HD marks not only the transition to being finger-friendly, but packs the latest OLED display technology, HD radio and by no means least 720p high-definition support. Microsoft have been spilling the beans on more Windows Marketplace for Mobile details at Tech.Ed New Zealand, including confirmation that the company will install a remote “kill switch” for removing software from users’ smartphones. The backdoor access will be used, apparently, should Microsoft approve and then later remove a title from the Marketplace; not only will it be stripped from the virtual store shelves, but automatically removed from any devices that have installed it.
