Week in review time again, here we go! The Lenovo IdeaPad Pineview netbook hit the FCC Monday. The FCC is one of the most prolific leaker of gadgets and gear around and we love them for it. The CrunchPad is now said to be steamrolling toward a launch and may have a sponsorship deal in place. Word was a few weeks back that the tablet was dead.

Chrome OS: Waiting Is The Hardest Part…Though Necessary

Google has more than emphasized that its Chrome operating system will be super speedy; it will boot in only seven seconds and surfing the web will be just be quicker. The irony is that you will actually have to wait for Google’s OS to arrive and for a pretty long time in the technology world. After giving a preview yesterday of what is in store from the Internet giant’s computing platform, Google’s Sundar Pichai said that they are “a year away” from releasing products with the operating system. Yep, we are going to be waiting for a solid 365 days!

Motorola Motus spotted; unusual form-factor vaunted

Perhaps we’re naive, but we’d have thought that the sort of people who get early access to unannounced mobile phones would also have a decent camera, but perhaps it’s the thrill of the unknown that causes heavy hand shake. No matter, you’re looking at a blurry image of the Motorola Motus, the company’s mid-rage Android smartphone expected to arrive in 2010, that showed up at the Motofan.ru forums.

Archos 5 Internet Tablet gets firmware update; Mini Dock demo [Video]

It’s been a rainstorm of Archos 5 Internet Tablet newness over at UMPC Portal today, with our friend Steve Paine taking delivery not only of the Archos 5 Mini Dock but the latest firmware which has also released today, v1.3.07. Together they’ve taken the Android-based Archos 5 even closer into MID status: USB host support means that you can plug a full-sized keyboard and mouse into the Mini Dock’s USB port, while the new firmware now supports full-screen YouTube HD playback together with outputting that content, via HDMI, onto your TV.

Dell Streak MID landing 2010 on AT&T claims paper

Having been spotted in prototype form last month, Dell’s Streak MID has received another shot of intrigue with Chinese rumor-monger Commercial Times claiming knowledge of both a manufacturer and a US carrier partner. According to their report, the Streak will be built by Qisda and released in the US with AT&T data in 2010.

Samsung Galaxy Spica I5700 announced (again)

Samsung have obviously been using the Royal Mail to shuttle their corporate updates around the globe, as three weeks after Samsung Russia officially announced the Galaxy Spica I5700 the company’s Korean HQ have pushed out their own press release. As before, they’ve confirmed that the Android-based Spica has an 800MHz processor, 3.2-megapixel camera and 3.5mm headphone jack, all in a casing measuring 13.2mm thick.

SlashGear Week in Review – Week 45 2009

Here we go with another week in review. Monday IDC released their data on the number of CPUs shipped for Q3 2009. The number of CPUS shipped grew 23% for the quarter compared to the previous year. ZiiLABS unveiled its new ZMS-08 Blu-ray quality media processor this week. The processor promises to be full 1080p HD video support and more for portable devices like tablets.

Archos look to boost Android MID apps with €1 dev deal

While we’ve been waiting for integrated 3G and carrier subsidies to bring the cost of the Archos 5 Android Internet Tablet down, if you’ve some developer skills and some time to kill there’s another way to get a cheap deal. Archos have announced a deal whereby developers can – eventually – get an Archos 5 for just €1; all they need to do is whip up an app for the 5-inch touchscreen MID.

ICD Vega 15-inch Android 2.0 tablet arrives 2010

Android’s progressive spread to non-smartphone devices continues, with the latest manufacturer to jump on the open-source Google bandwagon to be Innovative Converged Devices (ICD). The ICD Vega will initially have a 15.6-inch 1366 x 768 resistive touchscreen, paired with NVIDIA’s Tegra chipset, Android 2.0, integrated WiFi b/g/, Bluetooth 2.1 and 3G WWAN data, with the company expecting to ship the tablet in the first half of 2010 across hroughout North America, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.

Boeye Android MID gets iPhone style, bargain price

Android tablets aren’t exactly uncommon, so we generally reserve our extreme excitement until they actually arrive in stores rather than on display at trade shows touting for business. Still, when your tablet looks like an iPhone on steroids you’re bound to get some attention, and that’s just what’s happened to Chinese firm Boeye: their MID might run Android but its the striking Apple resemblance (and the estimated budget price tag) that has people excited.
