HP’s leaked consumer device catalog at the end of September warned us that the company had a new, 11.6-inch CULV notebook in the works, and sure enough HP Japan have just announced the new machine.  The HP Pavilion DM1 gets a dual-core 1.2GHz Intel Celeron SU2300 processor along with 2GB of RAM (5GB supported), a 250GB 5,400rpm hard-drive and Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics chipset.

It’s not quite the multitouch marvel, but Acer’s new 11.6-inch Aspire Timeline AS1810TZ does at least share the Windows 7 underpinnings of the company’s other new models today.  The CULV ultraportable uses Intel’s dual-core processors and promises over 8hrs of runtime from the standard 6-cell battery.

If Acer’s Aspire 1410T (aka the Timeline 1810T) took your fancy but you’re a multitouch convert, how about a convertible tablet version of the same ultraportable notebook?  macles have spotted the Acer Aspire Timeline 1820T, ostensibly the same 11.6-inch 1,366 x 768 notebook with an Intel CULV 1.4GHz Core 2 Solo SU3500 processor and 2GB of RAM, but gaining a rotating screen hinge and a multitouch-capable touchscreen.

Last year people took to the skies in order to try to clinch Acer's Want One? Win One competition; this year the stakes have been raised to an Acer Aspire Timeline notebook capable of an estimated 8hrs of runtime from a single charge.  The new Eight Hour Contest is calling for would-be Timeline winners to shoot a video explaining what they'd do with all that runtime; the public will vote and the most popular will get not only the ultraportable but a trip to CES 2010 and more.

Acer’s latest ultraportable notebook, the Aspire 1410 – the US version of the Timeline 1810T – has shown up for sale at CostCentral.  Priced at a reasonable $460.33, the 11.6-inch 1,366 x 768 notebook packs an Intel CULV 1.4GHz Core 2 Solo SU3500 processor and 2GB of RAM into a slimline casing strikingly similar to that of the Acer Aspire One 751h we reviewed yesterday.

It’s probably fair to say that we haven’t been particularly impressed with what we’ve heard about Acer’s Aspire One 751. The phrase “pretty but dumb” has been muttered more than once, an aesthetically pleasing machine but one lacking in processing power. So when Acer offered us the latest version, the AO751h-1522, we jumped at the opportunity to see how it holds up to our own exacting standards. Check out the full review after the cut

The weekend is here again fellow geeks and geekettes so I am back with another week in review. Monday more rumors surfaced that has Apple launching that long anticipated tablet device this November. The rumors further claim that the tablet will be aimed at gaming and media use. Early this week Verizon cut the pricing on all its smartphones save a few of the new ones to $99. That makes us think lots of new smartphone hardware is on its way.

Acer’s Aspire Timeline 1810T ultraportable has begun to show up in the wild, with at least two sites – ITC.ua and PCHome.net – getting their hands on the CULV ultraportable.  As you might expect, first impressions are that – in terms of the hardware you can see – the 1810T is very similar to the Acer Aspire One 751 it in effect replaces; unfortunately there’s no benchmarking feedback as yet to prove whether the ultraportable runs better than its lethargic predecessor.

Another week has come and gone and we are a week closer that that wondrous day parents look forward to all summer — back to school! Lots of goings on this week and much of it was centered on mobile phones. Spotify announced that it would have an official app available on the iPhone that works for subscribers on Premium packages. Monday, a bit more light was shed on the much anticipated Android donut update, alas it’s said to not be the OS 2.0 update we hoped for and won’t have multitouch.
