Acer may not be quite in the ASUS league when it comes to confusingly large netbook ranges, but they’re obviously trying to catch up.  Latest – and managing to offer something unique in the netbook segment – is this, the Acer Aspire One 571.  Not to be confused with the Aspire One 751, the 571 boosts the resolution of the 10.1-inch display to 1280 x 720, and throws in an optical disc drive.  Unlike the ASUS Eee PC 1004DN, however, this is no DVD burner but a Vmedia drive.

Acer’s Aspire One D250 netbook has gone on sale in Asia, with the 10.1-inch budget ultraportable retailing in the Philippines for 23,995 Pesos ($507).  Using Intel’s Atom N280 1.66GHz processor, the D250 is expected to phase out the Aspire One D150 with its slightly-slower N270 1.6GHz CPU.

According to the latest suggestions, the 11.6-inch Acer Aspire One netbook spotted this morning is actually the first in Acer’s Aspire One Pro range.  Targeted at professionals rather than those in education and home users, the 11.6-inch model is believed to be called the  Acer Aspire One Pro 731, and will be joined by a smaller model in short order.

The 10-inch Acer Aspire One D150 is not exactly new, but CeBIT was the first chance the SlashGear team has had to spend some hands-on time with the netbook.  The model to hand was Intel Atom N280-based, but we were most keen on trying out the keyboard and seeing whether earlier rumors of lowered build quality were true.

Images of a new Acer Aspire One netbook have emerged, with a slimmer chassis than the recent 10-inch D150 version.  The as-yet unannounced netbook also has the SD memory expansion slot which disappeared in the transition from 8.9-inch to 10-inches, and that plus the reduced heft suggests that what we see here is the SSD version.

No great surprise, given that we’re already seeing US reviews and retailers have had the netbook up for pre-order for some time now, but Acer have officially launched the 10-inch Aspire One D150 in the US.  The budget ultraportable starts at $349.99, which gets you Intel’s N270 1.6GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 160GB hard-drive, a 1024 x 600 10.1-inch gloss-finish display, WiFi b/g and a webcam.

After an unboxing photoset and video preview, the 10-inch Acer Aspire One D150 now gets a full review courtesy of Laptop Mag.  The segment leader gets a slicker casing, speedier 160GB hard-drive and larger touchpad, while the bigger display – although frustratingly glossy at some angles – is always welcome.  However have Acer soured the deal with an attempt at battery cost-cutting?

toshiba tg01 live 19 sg 194x230 customToshiba helped us kick off the week with the announcement of their new TG01 Windows Mobile smartphone: on paper it sounds perfect, with a high-res touchscreen, super-skinny body and all the wireless connectivity you could feasibly ask for, as well as being the first device to deliver NVIDIA’s 1GHz Snapdragon chipset.  Check out our hands-on photos and video demos, as well as Toshiba’s own GUI demo, and then try and explain to me why I still can’t get as excited about the TG01 as I think I ought to be.

After the impromptu 10-inch Acer Aspire One unboxing on Friday ended with the ominous suggestion that the new netbook feels “cheaper” than its predecessor, we now have a hands-on demo video to entertain us.  It’s potentially bittersweet for anybody particularly looking forward to this budget ultraportable: while there are some genuinely positive aspects – the huge battery, for one – there’s also disappointment to be had regarding both its look and feel.

Still only just up for pre-order in most countries, somehow a 10-inch Acer Aspire One D150 has found its way to netbooknews.de just in time for a quick unboxing.  This particular model, the mid-range netbook in some countries line-ups, has the older N270 Atom processor but the larger, 6-cell battery.  And, going by these unboxing photos, it certainly is a big battery.
