Sometimes a gadget comes along that is so pretty that, when you realise it has a spec-sheet more barren than the Sahara, you can’t help but tear at your chest and roar.  LG’s GD510 “Pop” isn’t quite so bad as all that, but it’s a handsome 3-inch touchscreen phone – the most compact ever with such a screen-size, they say – with a brushed aluminum body that throws out most of the things we take for granted in today’s handsets.  WiFi we can live without, but a handset lacking 3G?  For shame!

LG have revealed their plans to launch a number of new luxury phones, including a new PRADA design, which they hope will help usurp Samsung from their number two cellphone maker in the world position.  According to LG’s mobile business president, Ahn Seung-kwon, the current number three is aiming to step up by 2012, and one of their first steps in doing so will be releasing a new “Black Label” series phone in Q4 2009 to take on Apple’s iPhone 3GS.

LG have officially launched the Prada II cellphone, as expected, and it’s brought along a friend in the shape of a Bluetooth watch, the Prada Link.  Like other such devices we’ve seen, it can show caller ID as well as preview text messages, without requiring you to whip out the handset itself (and promptly get mugged).  As we’ve already seen, the Prada II itself is a 3G HSDPA (900/2100MHz) device with WiFi, a 3-inch capacitive WQVGA touchscreen and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

It’s been a mobile device bonanza this week, with the AT&T Fuze landing at SlashGear and promptly getting hauled over to the Sprint HTC Touch Pro for a damned good comparing.  Meanwhile HTC have set tongues wagging by fettling a version of the Touch HD for a Russian WiMAX carrier: they assure us that the HTC MAX 4G won’t be showing up anywhere else, but forgive us if we’re natural sceptics.  Meanwhile Verizon finally confirmed that the BlackBerry Storm 9530 would hit stores on November 24th, priced from $199.99, AT&T released the QuickFire, and Nokia confirmed the open-secret that is the E63 smartphone.

The LG Prada II cellphone will hit the UK on Tuesday November 18th, according to the latest news from the company.  Successor to the incredibly popular LG Prada – which we reviewed back in May last year - the Prada II keeps the 3-inch 400 x 240 capacitive touchscreen but adds a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and 5-megapixel camera.

LG have officially announced the Prada II cellphone, an update to the original touchscreen Prada handset with the inclusion of a sliding QWERTY keyboard.  Packing 7.2Mbps HSDPA (850/2100MHz), WiFi and a 5-megapixel camera, the Prada II runs LG’s own OS rather than Windows Mobile or Android.

blackberry storm hands on 3While the dual CDMA and HSDPA of the Verizon Wireless BlackBerry Storm has caused a few double-takes, it’s the unique ClickThrough touchscreen display that has prompted the most column-inches about the smartphone today.  ClickThrough takes advantage of the latest capacitive touchscreen technology and a layer of tactile sensors just beneath it; the top layer is used to gesture, scroll and highlight, while pressing down and through to the sensors gives true “click” feeling similar to that of the BlackBerry trackball.  The system uses Synaptics’ ClearPad, a custom multitouch-capable module first seen on the Onyx concept

Verizon and LG are wowing us today with a few new entrants onto Verizon’s network. The new devices are all pretty nice, but the showstopper is no doubt the Dare. The Dare is an all touch device, that will have a 3.2 mega pixel camera with auto focus, and will sport on board image editing. The Dare is a PRADA variant, it is similar to the AT&T offering, of the LG Vu. It is expected to launch next month.

It has a 2.8-inch capacitive touchscreen and a menu similar to that of the PRADA cell phones. In fact, save for the slide out number pad, it kind of looks like a more generic version of the PRADA phone.
