K.R.T. X9 joins list of multitouch tablets we can’t buy

Somebody needs to rent a boat, sail to China and pick up a hold-full of unknown touchscreen tablets; it's getting more than a little frustrating seeing what's on offer over there, and having so little choice in the US and Europe. Latest to tickle our collective fancy is the K.R.T. X9 from Shenzhen K.R.T. Technology, a 10-inch multitouch slate running Windows 7 on an Intel Atom N270 processor. The X9 packs WCDMA, TD-SCDMA and CDMA2000 3G, pretty much covering all the bases, together with WiFi a/b/g.

Can Anything Replace Windows XP As the Best Netbook Operating System?

As someone who has been running Windows XP as a primary operating system for the past eight years and has seen more netbooks with the dated OS in the last year or so, I was probably more excited about the arrival of Windows 7 than Twilight fans are about the upcoming release of the vampire packed New Moon movie. However, the last two netbooks I have gotten my hands on run the lower-end and feature-missing Windows 7 Starter edition. Although it pains me to admit it, I miss the rolling green mountains and blue skies of Windows XP.

Malata R108T budget Win7 convertible touchscreen netbook

Looking mighty familiar, but with a heritage that escapes our memory right now, Malata’s latest netbook is one of the increasingly popular convertible touchscreen models. The Malata R108T packs a rotating 10-inch 1024 x 600 touchscreen – which we’re presuming is resistive – together with the usual dreary roster of 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, 1GB of memory and 160GB hard-drive, but makes up for that by apparently being priced at around $435.

The FrankenBook: A Creation that Cannot be Killed

netbook Leading computer manufacturers along with Intel and Microsoft have inadvertently created a monster. And like Frankenstein, it is a monster they’d like to destroy. Although the industry’s hot-selling brainchild is physically quite small –perhaps more analogous to a gremlin in scale— with its small 10-inch screen, underpowered Intel Atom processor, cheaper version of Windows and under $400 price, netbooks are devouring corporate profit margins.

Viliv S10 10hr touchscreen netbook stars in hands-on video

The Viliv S10 may be a size increase for the Korean company, but at 10-inches the convertible touchscreen netbook is still very much an ultraportable. Steve from MID Moves had a chance to grab some hands-on time with the S10, suggesting that the netbook is better put together than Gigabyte’s TouchNote; you can see his video after the cut.

Viliv S10 touchscreen Windows 7 netbook: 10hrs runtime

Viliv are best known for their MIDs and UMPCs, but the Korean company have decided to branch out into more mainstream ultraportables. The Viliv S10 has made its debut at IDF this week, and offers a 10-inch 1,366 x 768 resistive convertible touchscreen, Intel’s Atom 1.33GHz or 2.0GHz processors, and Windows 7 Home Premium.

Acer Aspire One D250 Android netbook previewed: disappointing

Acer’s Android netbook has been regular grist for the rumor-mill, with delays tipped, buyer apathy prediced, along with vehement denials from the company themselves. So it’s with no small amount of interest that we read one of the first reviews of the Acer Aspire One D250 Android – as the netbook appears to have been labelled – courtesy of ePrice. They found the AOD250 to be “semi-finished”, with Android perhaps unsurprisingly causing many of the issues.

MSI Wind U110 Eco 15hr netbook gets official nod

MSI have announced the release of their latest long-running netbook, the Wind U110 Eco. They’re a little behind – after all, Amazon started selling the netbook last week, and at $30 less than MSI’s $429.99 MRSP – but we’ll let it slide since the U110 Eco manages to squeeze up to 15 hours of runtime from its 9-cell battery.

I am sort of Mac agnostic, I don’t love the company and I don’t hate them. I had a MacBook once and ran Windows on it more than I did Mac OS so I sold it. I love me some iPhone though and couldn’t imagine giving mine up. I am very intrigued by the Apple tablet rumors and I have been hoping for a cool tablet running Mac OS X to try out.

Nokia Booklet 3G netbook revealed: 12hr battery, HSPA and GPS [Video]

Nokia have announced their own netbook, the Nokia Booklet 3G, promising up to 12 hours battery life together with integrated WiFi, 3G HSPA and GPS. The 1.25kg netbook has an aluminum chassis and measures around 2cm thick; it uses an unspecified Intel Atom processor, has an HDMI output for HD video playback and a 10.1-inch glass HD-ready display.
