*how much. Oh, and this doesn’t come with a HD. So, I could use that $60 extra to put toward a HD. I am a PS3 gamer. Personally, I just want a 360 for HBO Go streaming and maybe a couple Kinect games. I would just buy a $99 Roku if Comcast allowed HBO Go streaming from that.

Ok, so this kind of sounds like a good deal for me. The difference for the hardware is $60 over the course of the year. That includes Xbox Live Gold which I would be signing up for anyway. My question is how mdoes XBLG cost normally? The website says “starting at $5/mo”. Starting at $5 and ending where? Are there different tiers of XBLG? Which one would be included in this promotion? If it’s the $5 XBLG and I bought the console flat out, it would come to $519 over the course of 2yrs. According to my math, I end up in the plus $60 if I went with this promo. Great deal. Am I figuring that wrong?

This might not be bad if Xbox Live Gold, like PS3 Plus, included access to free games. It does not. You’re basically paying just to be able to play online. It’s ridiculous. Sorry Microsoft, try again.

I love my son, but I’m not paying his Xbox and cell phone bill. At least if this tithing were being paid to Sony, he’d get something out of it. But Xbox access to things that are free on any computer(or other gaming console), no thanks.

Stan is still sort of correct if you account for the fact that the 250GB for 360 is $110 on amazon alone ($130 retail) and the one offered here is the 4GB.

Not worth it regardless unless you can’t pay the whole cost upfront. Obviously hardcore gamers won’t recommend this deal at all, but a lot of parents might.

Let’s see… a 250GB Xbox 360 with a Kinect Bundle is $399.00 online. The deal mentioned, above (4GB @ $99 + $15/month*24 months) is $459.00, plus tax.. Is a subscription to XBox Live Gold worth the extra $159? I hope people aren’t dumb enough to fall for this. Microsoft is probably betting that lots us are, though…

I think this is part of Microsofts bigger goal of shifting their business model of their gaming experiance completely online to more directly mirror that of cell phone providers. The neXt-BOX (next X-BOX) is already rumored to not use a disk drive as MS wants to emphasize downloads. A tied in service agreement has a direct relationship to that same model, as it disuades having consols with different manufacutrers in addition to the X-box. Currently Sony and Microsoft are in direct competition through the use of exlcusive content, software. Under this model they’ll compete more directly on the merits of their hardware and the service agreement setup will allow them to better leverage these without as transparent an impact on price. This also allows MS to profit from their consol in perpetuity, instead of just when the consols purchased and when someone subscibes. This is great for Microsoft, not so great for consumers. The consumer, like with cellphones will be contractually trapped and locked in with fees.

Back when I had XBLG it was like $36/yr from COSTCO.
I have no need for a console.
Have had my gaming PC with cablecard/Media Center in livingroom for a long time now.
So used to watching/recording live HDTV (since 2004) in a moveable , re-sizeable window on my big monitor , while I surf or do a multitude of other things a real PC allows me to do , I could never go back.
