To quote Patton "...no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. You won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country."

That, quite bluntly, is the point of war. There will always be aggressor nations in the world, advances like this allows us to put less of our people in harms way when we must inevitably fight back and protect ourselves.

As an added bonus. Technology such as this eventually finds its way into the private sector, making our lives better even when there is no one to fight.

That is a valid point and I see your concern. Technology has evolved to the point that we don't face the massive number of casualties we did even in Vietnam. As our tech advances fewer soldiers die, in turn less Americans realize the human cost of war (except for the few who actually serve) and the end result is more war.

So your moral question would be does tech help prevent war or embolden those that posses it?

"our first question should be – what’s the point of war if noone’s lives are put at risk?"

I guess the part about the K-MAX's main mission being to supply infantry soldiers with supplies was overlooked.
