2015 Honda Civic Type R packs 2.0L VTEC Turbo power

Honda has gone official with its latest hot hatch sports car called the Civic Type R at the Geneva Motor Show. The car has a high-revving 2.0L VTEC Turbo engine that is all new. According to Honda, the car offers greater power, torque, and response than any previous Honda production car engine. Honda also spent some time optimizing the styling for aerodynamics.

The result is an attractive car that Honda bills as a "Race car for the road." The turbo engine under the hood produces 310PS at 6500 rpm and 400nm of torque at 2500 rpm. The redline for the engine is 7000 rpm. Honda claims that the car can reach 62mph in 5.7 seconds and has a top speed of 167mph.

According to Honda, those performance numbers make the Civic Type R the fastest performance front-wheel drive hatchback out there. The engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. Honda puts 19-inch 235/35-19 tires on the car that were specifically developed for the Type R.

One of the cooler features of the car is a +R mode that enhances engine responsiveness and torque for better performance. That mode also changes the new four-point Active Damper System for better handling. The Type R will hit dealers in Europe this summer with pricing undisclosed. With all that tech, I'd wager the car will be one of the more expensive hot hatches out there.
