2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks unveiled, will launch this fall

General Motors has introduced the new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and High Country trucks, as well as the 2014 GMC Sierra and Sierra Denali 1500 trucks. Both have options for a V8 6.2-liter engine with 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, which GM says is the most powerful engine/torque combo among all light-duty pickup truck engines.

With the V8 6.2-liter engine with the Silverado LTZ and High Country and GMC Sierra SLT and Denali models, drivers will also have a towing capacity that tops out at 12,000 pounds. There's an optional Max Trailering Package for both the all-wheel-drive and the two-wheel-drive double cab and crew cab models, as well, that includes several additional features on top of what the trucks offer.

With the Trailering Package comes an auto-locking rear differential and enhanced cooling, as well as a heavy-duty 9.75-inch rear axle with 3.73 ratio. There are rear leaf springs with increased capacity, a revised shock tuning that offers better control, and an integrated trailer brake controller. Both four-pin and seven-pin connectors are included with the package.

For those with less demanding needs, there is also a 4.3-liter V6 engine option that allows for towing up to 7600 pounds, and a 5.3-liter V8 that will offer up to 11,500 pounds of towing. Regardless, all the engine options include direct fuel injection, continuously variable valve timing, and Active Fuel Management, something GM brags as not being offered in its competitors' trucks.

Said General Motors' Executive Chief Engineer for Full and Midsize Trucks Jeff Luke: "Power and towing capacity are fundamental capabilities for full-size pickups. The 2014 Silverado and Sierra deliver unmatched power and towing capability with a host of ingenious driver aids."
