Yeah, I’m surprised they aren’t popular, what with the performance of modern diesels. With their huge amounts of low down torque and great economy I’d have thought they’d be a decent alternative to large, inefficient petrol engines. I’ve been in a friend’s 2 litre diesel Audi A4, and its performance is amazing! (and before anyone asks, no, I drive a petrol)

That’s neither ‘sporty’, nor economical.
VW Polo GTi has a 1.4 engine, does 180bhp, 6.9 seconds 0-60, and 47.9 mpg (UK) combined. A Vauxhall Corsa 1.7 Diesel has 130 bhp, does 0-60 in 8.9 seconds, and does 62.8 mpg (uk) combined…

Not bad but…

2010 Scion xD 5sp stock: 0-60=7.9sec; 128hp; mpg=42hwy ( @65mph) 36mpg city (REAL WORLD NOT EPA THEORETICAL) $14985.00

Soooo…Sonic not really that impressive (at least not in these stat areas)
