That’s right; researchers have managed transfer speeds of 15Gbps through the air. Sadly, like all wireless technology the speed is dependent on proximity.
The 15Gbps speed is at one meter. From there it goes down 5Gbps every meter in distance you add. The soon to be named tech standard is 802.15.3c.
You, much like me, are probably asking why such fast speeds would be required at such close ranges. Some answers I found included home theater devices (TV, stereo receiver, optical disc player, etc.) and then there are the obvious devices, some of which already employ a PAN (personal area network) technology such as Bluetooth. Those devices being considered are cell phones, cameras, and all manner of portable PC’s. Some ideas I came to on my own are of newer, better input devices for video games syncing multiple devices without wiring (laptop, desktop, and phone/PDA) and wireless support for devices and home/car audio/video setups.

I dont think mainstream internet is even that fast, but streaming HD videos at home with this kind of speed will be great!
