10 more VR landmarks to visit with Google Cardboard (in Jordan)

Welcome to Jordan – Google's opened up the floodgates for virtual reality using "Street View" cameras and Google Cardboard. Without having to travel thousands of miles in a plane, you'll now be able to open up your web browser, tap a link, and open one of a handful of landmarks in the ancient city – placing your phone in your Google Cardboard VR headset to enter 10 unique realms. With Google's help, we're able to direct you to ten fantastic environments where your VR headset will transport you to a distant land in an instant.

Before you go anywhere, if you're on a desktop machine and do not own a Google Cardboard headset, you can still experience this tour in your web browser. Just head over to the Jordan Highlights page presented this week by Google. You can also use that link for mobile devices, but if you want the full experience, you're going to want to download Google Street View for Android on Google Play and iPhone on the iOS AppStore.

First, out in the middle of nowhere, you're going to find [Qasr Kharana], in Jordan. It's like a castle in the dust.

If you're a fan of Star Wars – especially Tatooine architecture – you're going to want to check our [Qasr Amra], also in Jordan. You'll just want to assume that every link in this article leads to Jordan from here on out, by the way.

Another castle to visit is [Al Karak Castle], and don't forget [Ajloun Castle] while you're in the area (as pictured at the head of this article).

If you'd rather find a slightly more damp area – just ever-so-slightly, you can head over to the [Dead Sea]

The [Madaba Mosaic Map in the church of Saint George] allows you to inspect the tiles up close and personal. Just about as up close and real as you're going to get outside of actually going in for a visit.

Walk around the top of [Mount Nebo] and see how few people explore the vastness of this space on a weekday!

Once you see the [Colonnaded Street] and the Jerash ruins – or monuments, if you prefer – you'll see how epic this journey can be.

Walk further down the path to find the rest of Jerash, and its [column-guarded cityscape], complete with a fantastic [ancient theater] to boot.

Perhaps the most gorgeous and well-known arena in this space is the [Treasury in Petra], one of the places where you'll find people seeking out the Holy Grail.
