Worth Reading?

NoYes

If you’ve purchased and iPhone I have to ask, did you do so with the intention of unlocking it? There’s a pretty decent chance that you did just that. According to Apple, roughly 1 out of every 6 iPhones was purchased with the sole purpose of unlocking it.

Apple confirmed that they have sold around 1.4 million iPhones thus far, and they estimate that 250,000 of them were bought for unlocking.

With those kinds of sales figures, you have to wonder how many more they would sell if they were unlocked by default. I know several people that would love to buy one, but won’t because they don’t want to be tied to AT&T’s service and fear bricking the phone by unlocking it. Alas, we’ll likely never see the day when Apple decides to do this.
