1.2m iPads shipping per month tip sources

Last we heard from Apple's official bean-counters, the company had shipped two million iPads in less than two months time.  Now, according to DigiTimes figures – which, we have to admit, we're always a little cautious about – Cupertino are shipping on average 1.2 million iPad units per month, and they're predicting that could rise to 2.5m per month by the end of the year.

Their calculations are in part based on sneakily-acquired figures from LG Display, who until now have been sole providers of the 9.7-inch panels Apple uses in the iPad.  However, as of July, Samsung Electronics will reportedly begin supplying Apple too; they're expected to ship between 300,000 and 500,000 panels per month.  LG Display apparently shipped 800,000 to 900,000 panels in May, with each display and touch module costing around $80-90, we're told.
